Georgette Heyer is the queen of Regency romance. The characters are well drawn, interesting and real to life of the time period. She was meticulous about the language, dress and history, in fact, she was the foremost authority on the Regency period. Many times I've laughed out loud while reading her stories. The dialogue is fabulous. There is no sex in these books but you won't miss it. I read These Old Shades first as a teenager, followed immediately by the sequel, Devil's Cub. If you're looking for more humor, try Frederica, The Grand Sophy or The Talisman Ring. There's many more to choose from. If you've never read her you're in for a treat!
