In October of 1991, my son Dan called on the phone. It is always nice to pick up the receiver and hear one of your offspring say, “HI, Mom.” Usually this statement is followed by, “How are you?” Not this time. Dan got right down to business and said that Bryant, my grandson, needed family stories for a school project. I relayed some details about countries our ancestors came from and other fun fact. Dan and I talked for a few minutes and hung up. He was paying for the call, and on his Montana Trooper pay, every penny counts. I think all calls to mothers should be free. After we hung up I got out a tablet and pencil and began writing family stories for the kids. This is what started my love of putting words on paper.
