Nelle Harper Lee is known for her 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, her only major work. It was voted "Best Novel of the Century" in a 1999 poll by Library Journal, and in 2007, Lee was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contribution to literature. Her second novel, GO SET A WATCHMAN, is scheduled for publication in July 2015.
As a child, Lee was a tomboy and enjoyed the friendship of her schoolmate, Truman Capote. Lee accompanied Capote to Holcomb, Kansas, to assist him in researching his groundbreaking book, IN COLD BLOOD.
