My writing career began at age 5. I recall sitting at my father's typewriter, writing an action-packed news story about a truck crashing into a building. Fire! Screams! Panic in the streets! The story was notable for two reasons. First, this was before I learned to read and write, so my "story" must have consisted entirely of random letters and punctuation marks. Who cares? It was great copy. Second, the story itself was wholly fictitious. At an early age, obviously, I combined a vivid imagination with a reckless disregard for the facts. I decided on a career in journalism. For 30 years I worked as a newspaper editor and columnist. In 2008, I left fulltime newspaper work, a development that, unfortunately, rocked not only the newspaper industry but the entire global economy. (Economists are still sorting out the exact causes.) My first book, "The Wreck of the Nymph," is about a search for a legendary treasure ship. I'm not ready to announce my second, but I've got this awesome idea about a truck that slams into a building. Don Flood lives in Delaware with his wife Helen. They have one son.
