Al Bargen is an accomplished martial artist and author who has a lifetime knowledge of personal fitness. Al has black belts in Jishin-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, (including a 2nd Degree black belt) Tai-Jitsu, and most recently Sogo Ryu Ju-Jitsu and has also owned and operated a Jeet Kune Do school in the Okanagan, British Columbia.
He started training in Karate at 11 years old, set out on a path to become the best martial artist he could possibly become. This meant acquiring the physical characteristics to go along with it.
Training with bodybuilders, personal trainers, and even doctors, he drilled them all for their trade secrets, and blended these into his personal program. It wasn't until he started to train with guys who were competing that he learned some truly amazing techniques being applied to gain size, strength, and endurance.
He even witnessed a lot of what 'not-to-do' with a few of these guys who could dehydrate drastically in a short period of time to 'make weight' for a fight then bring it back up again in 24hours. Al was a sparring partner for a few of these guys and observed firsthand how these drastic training measures could hurt a person's overall performance.
He observed that it was the people who took a sensible, yet well rounded and consistent approach to their health and sports performance that made the lasting gains, and this is how the Cheeseburger Abs Philosophy was born.
Fast forward many years, Al found himself with a double hernia. This required surgery, and he couldn't train or workout the way he used to. Al was on a waiting list for a little over two years. He put on weight and started getting depressed.
