Within easy walking distance there is a library, at least a dozen art galleries and museums, countless bars offering all kinds of music and atmospheres, (it is also close to the college campus of MSU) chic coffee places, wine bars, fine dining, old-fashioned diners, well-preserved historic mansions, ramshackled hovels, luxury loft apartments, public housing for the economically challenged, two homeless shelters, five churches of four different denominations, crack houses (hard to count because they get shut down then open up again a few doors away) and two concert halls where you can watch a ballet or opera.
